WATCH (above): Two young people have died after their car plunged into a lake near Prince George. As Tanya Beja reports in May, 2014, investigators are now trying to determine what led to the tragedy.
VANCOUVER – Prince George RCMP say the death of two teens in May, 2014, has now been concluded to be a homicide / suicide.
Kendall Moore and Craig Wood died after their vehicle plunged into Kwitzil Lake, or Gravel Pit Lake, on May 18, 2014. The two were high school students in Prince George and were attending an unofficial prom party at the time, according to posts on social media.
RCMP say the criminal code investigation has been extensive and involved many aspects, including forensic evidence analysis, a vehicle inspection, multiple interviews and autopsies, which included toxicology testing. The investigation was hampered due to the high amounts of rumours and speculation on both traditional and social media and police had to filter through all the information to validate the facts.
Due to the evidence and facts collected, RCMP say Wood’s actions led to his own death and Moore’s death, and have concluded it to be a homicide / suicide.
This is a tragic result to an entirely preventable situation, said Sgt. Todd Wilson of the Prince George RCMP’s serious crime section.
We believe substance abuse was a direct factor in these deaths.
