LAS VEGAS — Canadian R&B artist The Weeknd was arrested in Las Vegas after police say he hit an officer in the head.

Las Vegas Police Officer Laura Meltzer says 24-year-old Abel Tesfaye of Toronto was arrested early Saturday in a Las Vegas Strip hotel on suspicion of misdemeanor battery of a protected person. He was taken to the Clark County Detention Center, but wasn’t listed on the jail roster on Monday.

Meltzer says police, trying to break up a fight, took Tesfaye into an elevator, where he allegedly “punched the officer at the side of his head with a closed fist.”
