WATCH: Raw video of Montreal firefighters battling Papineau Street apartment fire
MONTREAL — A fire that started Friday morning at the corner of Papineau and Ontario Streets caused delays for many commuters.
Around 100 firefighters were called to the scene of the three-storey residential building at 6:30 a.m. to battle a fire that broke out in the basement.
The Red Cross was also at the scene to help residents.
Montreal police said the southbound section of Papineau Street would be closed at Ontario Street going southbound.
Drivers hoping to access the Jacques-Cartier bridge were diverted to Ste-Catherine Street or René-Lévesque Boulevard.
