A British Airways flight on it’s way to Calgary from London Thursday morning was forced to turn around and land shortly after takeoff.

The Boeing 787 – 800 was over the Manchester area when it transmitted the Universal Emergency code.

Reports say that before Flight BAW103 was able to land, it had to maintain a holding pattern for some time, presumably to burn off fuel.

According to a spokesperson for British Airways, the flight landed safely and all the passengers and crew made it off of the plane safely. They also indicated that the flight landed purely as a precaution. Customers on Thursday’s flight will continue their journey to Calgary on a replacement aircraft on Friday.

British Airways says it will provide hotel accommodations and refreshments for the affected passengers.
