Body located inside house gutted by fire on New Year’s Day

WATCH: Investigators have found a body inside the home where a three-alarm fire took place Thursday, but have not confirmed the identity. Marianne Dimain reports.

TORONTO – Police say a body has been found inside a Toronto home gutted by a three-alarm fire on New Year’s Day.

Fire crews were called around 7 a.m. Thursday to the north-end residence on Camwood Crescent near Don Mills and York Mills Roads.

Toronto Fire Division Commander Andrew Kostiuk told reporters on Thursday that a preliminary search didn’t turn up any sign of a 68-year-old man who relatives had said lived at the home alone.

Police Detective Jeff MacDuff told reporters Friday morning they could not confirm if the body found was indeed that of the missing man.

The Ontario Fire Marshal’s office said the body was located in the basement.
