Manuel Mendoza is thankful to be alive after a freak accident Tuesday night.
The 77-year-old janitor was cleaning a medical clinic in Houston, Texas when he was struck by a truck tire that had barrelled down the freeway and smashed through the window of the clinic.
Security footage of the incident shows the terrifying moment Mendoza grabs a chair by the clinic’s window just as the tire breaks through the glass and sends the man flying onto the floor.
“It was sort of like an explosion,” Mendoza told Local 2 News through an interpreter.
A second security camera caught the tire in motion, which seemed to have loosened itself from a truck on the Gulf Freeway and into the clinic’s parking lot.
Mendoza was taken to a hospital and treated for cuts and bruises but has no major injuries.
Clinic owner Dr. Joseph Sleiman says he is glad Mendoza is recovering and believes that there must have been some divine intervention.
“I believe, probably because of Christmas, God was here,” Sleiman said. “This is a miracle.”
