KELOWNA – A provincial non-profit organization based in Kelowna, Women’s Enterprise Centre, has caught the attention of the federal government.
Minister of Status of Women, Dr. Kellie Leitch, has announced $200,650 in funding for WEC.
“It’s for a 30 month project to support professional and entrepreneurial women here in British Columbia,” says Leitch.
WEC will hold forums around the province to help women who have small businesses grow their companies.
“Most of these initiatives take place in larger centres so it’s very exciting to see that happen in the Southern Interior,” says Kelowna business owner Jill White. “There is a lot of growth opportunity here and many women wanting to have their own business.”
More than 400 people attended the first and only BC economic forum on empowering women in October in Vancouver.
With the new funding, similar events will be held around the province over the next two and a half years.
