BEDFORD, N.S. – A Good Samaritan who saw two young children left in a car in a parking lot ended up being hit by that same vehicle on Tuesday morning.

It all began outside the Dollarama store at the strip mall on Damascus Road in Bedford just before noon.

Several women noticed the two toddlers in the backseat of a vehicle. One of the women told Global News the car was running and unlocked. She said they called police and waited 25 minutes for the car’s owner to return from shopping.

According to police, when the women told the female driver they had called police, the driver got into her car and tried to drive away.

The 911 caller was struck in the leg and ended up on the hood of the car.

The witness told Global News her friend was on the hood for a few feet, before falling off and the car drove away. She was not injured.

A plainclothes officer stopped the vehicle on Highway 101 and arrested the 25-year-old female driver.

“She’s now facing charges of assault with a weapon, and dangerous operation of a motor vehicle. She has been released at the scene and the investigation is continuing along with Community Services,” said Const. Pierre Bourdages.

Halifax Regional Police are asking anyone who witnessed the incident to call them at (902) 490-5016.
