Stolen truck collides with vehicle during Prince Albert police chase

PRINCE ALBERT, Sask. – Three people are in custody after a high-speed chase involving a stolen truck ended after it slammed into a vehicle at a Prince Albert, Sask. intersection Saturday evening. Two people in the vehicle were injured.

It started when police were called to a school in the 400-block of 23rd Street East just before 8 p.m. There were reports of damage to the school and witnesses said numerous suspects were seen leaving the area in a white truck.

A responding officer spotted the northbound truck stopped at a red light on 6th Avenue at the intersection of 19th Street. According to police officials, the driver in the suspect vehicle observed the responding officer and drove through the red light in the opposite direction.

Despite temporarily losing sight of the vehicle, the officer was able to follow its path and spotted the truck travelling at a high rate of speed eastbound on 15th Street East. The officer activated emergency equipment but again lost sight of it due to the high rate of speed.

Moments later, police say the truck drove dangerously fast through a red light at the intersection of 15th Street and 15th Avenue East and collided with another vehicle.

Bystanders attempted to provide medical assistance to two victims from the vehicle that was struck. Two people were taken to hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

The suspects fled the truck on foot prior to police arriving. A police dog helped catch one of the suspects while two others were apprehended at Victoria Hospital.

Investigators later determined that a break and enter had occurred at the school and the truck was stolen.

The incident is still under investigation and charges are pending.
