Police charge 4 teens in connection with Cole Harbour triple shooting

HALIFAX – Police have charged four teens in connection with a shooting in Cole Harbour that sent three other teens to hospital with injuries.

On Sunday, RCMP arrested two people after responding to a call around 7 p.m. on Arklow Drive after four males wearing bandanas allegedly forced their way into a home and fired shots. On Monday, two more suspects, both 17-year-old boys, were arrested as part of the investigation.

Markel Jason Downey, 18, faces charges including three counts of attempted murder, two counts of robbery, and several firearms-related offences. He appeared in Dartmouth provincial court on Tuesday morning.

The other three suspects, who cannot be named because they’re 17 years old, are also facing charges including attempted murder, robbery and firearms-related offences. They are scheduled to appear in Halifax youth court on Tuesday afternoon. Two of the youths are also charged with violating court orders stemming from unrelated charges.

Two of the three victims of the shootings, all of whom are between the ages of 17 and 18, are still in hospital with serious injuries.

The Mounties said the victims and the suspects knew each other and the incident was not a random act.

Police are asking anybody with information about the case to contact RCMP or Crime Stoppers.
