KELOWNA, B.C. – A new four-lane road is set to open to motorists in Kelowna. The Clifton Road upgrades between Clement and Lambert Avenue are nearing completion.
The new road is set to open before 5 p.m. on Sunday, November 30. According to the city, the $3.6-million improvements to the road include expanding the section to four lanes, new sidewalks on either side, and street lighting.
New retaining walls have also been added where necessary and a signalized pedestrian crossing has been installed at Hartwick Avenue.
A separated cycling facility, called a “cycle track” – the first of its kind in the city – will also be added.
“It is a cycle lane separated from the roadway by a physical barrier curb and from the pedestrian sidewalk by a visual barrier. It will be the first cycle track constructed in the city,” says Kelly Kay, Communications Advisor with the city.
Kay adds the rest of the work could continue into December. Pacing the “cycle track” as well as the final lift of paving will be completed next spring.
Kay says detour routes will be clearly marked via Glenmore, Clement and High roads.
