MONTREAL- Three English school boards on the south shore and in the Eastern Townships are bracing for the government’s planned mergers.
Education minister Yves Bolduc is expected to try and merge the Riverside, New Frontiers and Eastern townships school boards as part of the Liberal government’s austerity efforts.
In a press release issued late Thursday afternoon New Frontiers school board says it will meet with the other affected boards in the coming weeks to discuss the impact of the merger.
All three boards will meet with minister Bolduc and the Quebec English School Boards’ Association in December.
Legislation that will enforce the merger is expected to be tabled in Feburary, 2015.
The Riverside, New Frontiers, Eastern township merger is the only one planned for English school boards.
The Education minister says he will combine 60 French boards into 36 as part of his restructuring plan.
