WINNIPEG — Alan Doyle has found amazing success with Great Big Sea for more than two decades and now he’s taking on a different industry with his memoir Where I Belong.
Doyle was raised in Newfoundland in the tiny fishing village of Petty Harbour where much of the inspiration for his music originates. It wasn’t until the early ’90s that he joined Sean McCann, Darrel Power and Bob Hallett to form the Celtic rock band Great Big Sea.
Twenty years later, the band is still going strong after nine studio albums. Doyle released a highly successful solo album, Boy on Bridge, in 2012 and is set to release a second in January.
His new memoir touches on his early life in Petty Harbour, forming Great Big Sea, and leaving everything he knew behind to pursue his dreams on the road.
He joined Mike Koncan on Global Winnipeg’s Morning News Thursday to discuss his career and his new book.
