Okanagan Forecast: Staying Cold and Mostly Dry

Weather update: Friday November 14th 4:30pm

Did you see light flurries in your neighbourhood today? When cold dry air evaporates water from the lake, it spits it back out as very light flurries over the land because cold air (unlike warm air) can’t hold moisture well. As a result we had some very light flurries in parts of the valley on Friday.

Breaking news from Canada and around the world sent to your email, as it happens.

The possibility of these light lake-induced flurries will continue this weekend since we will still be under this cold and dry airmass.

Valley cloud has also been a weather feature over the past few days, and our weekend will also start with valley cloud. We expect clearing for most areas Saturday afternoon.

However, a temperature inversion is going set up on Sunday. This will keep the valley cloud from dissipating, and we are expecting the cloud to last most of the day Sunday and Monday.

Right now, there are signs that a system will push in from the southwest late Monday and that will bring the potential for flurries on Tuesday.  As we are still days away, there is some uncertainty about this system.

Saturday’s Highs: -6C to 0C
Sunday’s Highs: -7 to 0C
