Rainfall warning in effect for North Vancouver, Howe Sound

WATCH: North Vancouver is still cleaning up after heavy rain earlier in the week. Another rainfall warning has been issued for tonight. Our Catherine Urquhart was out in the elements today and has more on the story.

VANCOUVER – Environment Canada has issued a rainfall warning for North Vancouver, the North Shore mountains and the Howe Sound area.

Heavy rain is expected to fall on those regions due to a strong frontal system moving across the region.

The total rainfall amount of 50 to 70 mm is forecast for both areas with the heavy rain tapering off to a few showers Thursday afternoon.

Environment Canada says localized flooding in low-lying areas is possible.

Some residents in North Vancouver are still cleaning up from the storm Monday night.

More than 86 millimetres of rain came down on North Vancouver. Officials say at least five different creeks and waterways overran their banks, sending a torrent of water onto area streets. A few homes in the area had to be evacuated.

The storm also closed Argyle Secondary for a day as water had come rushing into the building.
