VANCOUVER – Four pit bull puppies and five adult dogs are being rushed to the vet this afternoon after they were seized by the BC SPCA.

Officers were called to the Port Coquitlam home, at Ottawa Street and Dominion Avenue, on Monday afternoon after the owners had been given opportunity to get veterinary aid for the dogs but had not done so.

“[These dogs] have been here for a long time, the owner had an opportunity to fix it and come over here and deal with the dogs,” said BC SPCA Cst. Gino Pagliericci.

The owners are out of the country and the dogs were left to fend for themselves. They were not fixed so they kept reproducing and lived in a garage on the property.

“They weren’t really well treated so most of them are going to the vet right now,” said Pagliericci.

Lorie Chortyk, spokesperson for the BC SPCA, said this is a fairly large seizure. The dogs have never been with people and after going to the vet will be taken to the pound, and will hopefully find new homes.

It is unknown at this time if the owners will be charged.
