Thousands remain without power in N.B. after wintry blast

FREDERICTON, N.B. – Over 4,000 New Brunswick homes and businesses are still in the dark Monday evening after a wintry blast hit the province Sunday.

At one point, NB Power was reporting more than 12,000 in the dark, with the majority of outages in the Woodstock area.

The utility says they have more than 200 line workers on the ground leading the restoration efforts, with assistance from local New Brunswick line and tree trimming contractors.

NB Power says they plan to have power restored by midnight Monday evening, Nov 3, for the following locations: Bathurst, Bouctouche, Moncton, Sackville, Shediac, Miramichi, Rothesay, Fredericton, Sussex and Grand Falls.

The majority of the following communities are expected to have their power restored by the evening of Nov. 4: Campbellton, Woodstock and St. Stephen.

“We were prepared to see a few outages based on the weather conditions,” said NB Power’s Meghan Gerrish. “The heavy wet snow on the lines, the trees that still have leaves, those branches getting weighed down on the power lines is what is causing the trouble.
