11 break and enters reported in southeast Edmonton over six days

EDMONTON – Residents of Forest Heights, Terrace Heights, Capilano and Fulton have been victims of what Edmonton police are calling “crimes of opportunity.”

Between October 16 and October 21, 11 break and enters were reported to police.

The incidents took place between 7:30 a.m. and 4 p.m.

Police say items reported stolen are small, easy to carry things like jewellery, money and small electronics.

“These thefts appear to be crimes of opportunity,” said Community Liaison Cst. Craig Beaton. “Homes are being targeted while homeowners are at work and children are at school. This is a good time to do a quick 20-second check to remove all valuables from plain sight in your home and vehicle.”

The EPS says the crimes happened on the following dates in the following areas:

· October 16: 99 Avenue and 83 Street
· October 16: 104 Avenue and 83 Street
· October 16: 101 Avenue and 83 Street
· October 16: 99 Avenue and 83 Street
· October 16: 99 Avenue and 77 Street
· October 20: 106A Avenue and 78 Street
· October 20: 102 Avenue and 73 Street
· October 20: 103 Avenue and 74 Street
· October 20: 103 Avenue and 74 Street
· October 21: 102 Avenue and 72 Street
· October 21: 105 Avenue and 76 Street

Now, police are asking residents of southeast Edmonton to be vigilant and report any suspicious activity.

“It’s crucial for people to report crime to police when it happens,” said Beaton. “The more timely information we have, the better chance we will have in catching the criminals.”
