WINNIPEG – A woman who got a flat tire along Highway 8 as she drove south from Gimli, Man., was sexually assaulted by a man she thought was going to help her, police say.
The flat tire stopped the 42-year-old just north of Highway 229 at about 11 p.m. on Sept. 17, RCMP said in a news release.
A man in a grey or silver SUV stopped and offered her a ride to Winnipeg Beach so she could get help, she told police.
Instead, he drove her to a secluded area, pulled over and sexually assaulted her, then drove off, leaving her on the road, police said.
The man is described as fair-skinned, 40 to 50 years old, about six-foot-one and 260 pounds with rusty-coloured hair and freckles on the bridge of his nose and under light-coloured eyes.
RCMP ask anyone with information about the assault to call them at 204-642-5106 or Crime Stoppers anonymously at 1-800-222-8477.
