WINNIPEG – The zoo’s newest polar bear cubs will go on public display Friday – and you can vote to help choose their names.
Assiniboine Park Zoo announced Monday that the male and female 11 month old polar bear cubs have completed their month-long quarantine, after being discovered on the shores of Hudson Bay with no mother bear in sight.
A list of possible names has already been compiled, based on suggestions from students at three northern Manitoba schools: Blizzard, Jack or Keewatin for the male cub; Crystal, Trinity or Star for the female.
You can vote by going to the zoo’s Facebook page and clicking “Like”.
“The cubs will spend a few more days exploring their outdoor enclosure off exhibit before making their public debut on Friday,” said Dr. Brian Joseph, Director of Zoological Operations at the Assiniboine Park Zoo. “They will remain on exhibit at the IPBCC for several months, growing and adjusting to their new home. When we feel they are ready we will begin the process of introducing them to our other bears in the Journey to Churchill exhibit.”
