Ministry of Labour, police investigate Sarnia explosion

SARNIA, Ont. – Fire, police and Ontario ministry of labour officials are investigating a blast and fire at an industrial facility in Sarnia.

Yesterday’s explosion sent five people to hospital.

One person who suffered critical injuries was airlifted to a hospital in London.

The explosion occurred at the Veolia ES Canada Industrial Services plant.

Fire officials say the plant was badly damaged, but no dangerous chemicals were released into the environment.

The plant is located in an industrial area, with no residential properties nearby.

Some locals took to Facebook after hearing the explosion, with one saying it sounded like it was on the front porch.
