HALIFAX – Nova Scotia’s police watchdog says a Halifax police officer was justified trying to stop a motorcyclist who went through a stop sign, hit a car and crashed into a power pole.

The Serious Incident Response Team was called in after the 27-year-old man broke his lower right arm in the crash shortly before 11 a.m. in Dartmouth on June 9.

The investigative unit says the officer turned on his emergency equipment after seeing the man drive through the stop sign and speed away.

The Serious Incident Response Team says the car driver and another civilian witness supported the officer’s statements about what happened and the motorcyclist acknowledged his responsibility for the crash.
