REGINA – The heat wave hitting Saskatchewan in October should keep giving us warm weather until at least the weekend.
On Monday, the province set 29 heat records – including here in Regina. The Queen City hit 24.1 degrees and Moose Jaw also broke a record when the mercury climbed up to 23.9 degrees.
Global News Weather Specialist Tiffany Lizee explains that the province is currently under a strong upper ridge in the jet stream, which is pulling up warm, southern air into most of the Prairies.
Leader, Saskatchewan had the warmest temperature in the province with the town reaching 26.6 degrees, but no town in Saskatchewan was the hot spot in Canada on Monday. That honour went to Bow Island, Alberta where the mercury climbed to 27.4 degrees.
For the rest of the week, the warm temperatures show no sign of slowing down, with Regina expected to reach a high of 20 degrees on Tuesday and a high of 16 degrees on Wednesday.
