Politicians in the central Okanagan brandished scissors at four ribbon cutting ceremonies Wednesday, marking the official completions of infrastructure improvement projects.
In West Kelowna, the upgrades to Westlake Road include new sidewalks, curbs, underground utilities, dedicated cycling and turning lanes, a light controlled crosswalk, street lights and the district’s first traffic round-about.
“I certainly heard good things from residents, as early as this morning at an event, with people saying ‘Thank you for fixing my road’. This was a horrible road before for safety reasons,” says mayor Doug Findlater.
And in Lake Country, ribbons were cut at three projects including improvements to Bottom Wood Lake Road, increased capacity at the waste water treatment plant and upgrades to the Beasley Park parking lot which will also function as a bus transit park and ride facility.
The total cost of the four projects is about $15.5 million. Roughly half of that amount was grants from the federal Gas Tax Fund.
