VANCOUVER – The Vancouver Police Department is issuing a warning to local drug users after a woman has died and 31 people have overdosed on heroin in the past two days at INSITE.
This is believed to be a record for the facility since it opened in 2011.
Gavin Wilson, a spokesman for Vancouver Coastal Health, told The Canadian Press that 15 people overdosed at INSITE on Monday, and there were 16 on Sunday.
Police believe the death of a woman on Sunday is related to heroin but the exact cause of death has not yet been determined.
Drug users are urged to not shoot up alone and if possible go to INSITE as medical personnel can intervene in the event of an overdose.
Police are also urging drug users who do not feel well to seek medical help immediately and call 9-1-1.
