OTTAWA – Employment in Saskatchewan rose the fastest in Canada over the past year as the province’s unemployment rate remained the lowest in country.
According to figures released Friday by Statistics Canada, employment in Saskatchewan was up 19,000 in September from the same period last year, an increase of 3.3 per cent.
Of those new jobs, 7,000 were created last month – 4,900 full-time and 2,100 part-time.
The unemployment rate was 3.5 per cent, down from 4.2 per cent in August.
Jeremy Harrison, the minister responsible for immigration, jobs, skills and training said a growing and robust economy had a huge impact on the numbers.
The national unemployment for September was 6.8 per cent, the lowest level in six years, as 74,100 new jobs were created.
