EDMONTON – A construction worker on Alberta’s Highway 63 had to be airlifted to hospital Monday night after being hit by a truck.

The RCMP says he was conducting traffic control in a construction zone (with a speed limit of 50 km/h) where the highway is being twinned near Mariana Lake, around kilometre marker 134.

At around 8 p.m., the man was hit by a passing semi truck.

He was taken to hospital with serious injuries.

The cause of the crash and factors leading up to it are still being investigated by RCMP and a collision analyst.

The man’s identity and his employer are still being confirmed.
