Mary Fragedakis has been re-elected in Ward 29 Toronto-Danforth with 59.3 per cent of the vote, well ahead of Dave Andre, who came in second with 24.7 per cent.

This will be Fragedakis’ second term on council.

In January 2010, Case Ootes – former councillor and deputy mayor under Mel Lastman – announced he wouldn’t seek re-election. Fragedakis won her council seat in the 2010 election with nearly 42 per cent of the vote.

Fragedakis has highlighted the treatment of seniors as a core campaign issue, citing a report by the city’s ombudsman that investigated Toronto Community Housing Corporation’s practice of evicting seniors. The ward has an ageing population: City data show the number of residents between the ages of 60 to 64 grew by almost 37 per cent from 2006 to 2011 (compared to 28.8 per cent for the city overall).
