SASKATOON – A Saskatoon man who was previously fined for illegal hunting in Saskatchewan has now been fined for firearms offences.

Donald Scheuerman pleaded guilty to five charges under The Criminal Code of Canada and The Firearms Act including unlawfully storing firearms, careless storage of firearms and possession of restricted firearms.

He was given a $6,500 fine, a mandatory 10-year non-restricted firearms prohibition and a lifetime ban from having restricted firearms.

Scheuerman was charged after an investigation into illegal hunting activities nearly Kindersley in November 2013.

During the investigation, conservation officers found Scheuerman was storing firearms and ammunition improperly, and was illegally in possession of restricted firearms.

Ministry of Environment enforcement director Ken Aube said the charges are not a reflection on legitimate hunters.

“This individual is not a legitimate hunter and his illegal actions are an issue of public safety,” said Aube.

“We hope this will send a strong message to deter others who may think about abusing our firearm laws and wildlife resources.”

Scheuerman was fined $5,600 in August and given a five-year wildlife hunting ban in the province.
