Insurance Premiums May Be Reduced for some Okanagan Residents

KELOWNA – Residents living  near the North Westside Fire Halls outside of Vernon may be eligible to have their fire insurance premiums reduced.

The North Westside Fire Rescue department has recently had its fire boat accredited as an alternative water supply to hydrants for public fire protection.

Property owners within an eight kilometre travel distance of the fire halls in Killiney Beach and Short’s Creek may be eligible to receive reduced fire insurance premium rates.

This also applies to residents who live within 300 metres of the shoreline of Okanagan Lake.

The Regional District of Central Okanagan says those property owners are serviced by the fire boat, and with the latest accreditation, they are considered to be protected just as  if there was a fire hydrant in the area.

Property owners are are advised to contact their insurance provider to confirm whether the accreditation will result in lower premiums.
