VANCOUVER – It has been exactly one year since the death of 14-month-old Alexcia McKamey and her family is still waiting for answers.

They are holding an event today to mark the sad anniversary at Fraser River Heritage Park in Mission. On Monday they are also holding a rally in Abbotsford to demand justice for the young girl.

Alexcia had only just started to walk when she died under suspicious circumstances in September 2013. She was with her dad and they were visiting a home in Chilliwack, when police and ambulance were called to the home and found her in medical distress. She was rushed to hospital, but sadly, did not make it.

Her death is being treated as suspicious. The Integrated Homicide Investigation Team say Alexcia did not die of natural causes but have not released her cause of death.

A person of interest was arrested in connection to the case shortly after, but was released without being charged.

“I want answers as to why she’s not in our life any more, why she’s gone, why she doesn’t get a chance to live a life or grow up. If somebody hurt her I want charges laid,” Alexcia’s mom Jacqueline told us in December.

“You question it all the time as a mom. You wonder if there’s something you could have done different or if it would have happened with you, or if is was best it happened with them. I just don’t know. I have nothing. No answers. Just so many questions.”
