OTTAWA – Less people in Saskatchewan were receiving employment insurance in July than in the previous month according to new number released Thursday by Statistics Canada.
The agency reported 10,500 people were receiving benefits in July, down 5.0 per cent from June. The drop comes after two months of little change.
On a yearly basis, the number receiving benefits was up 0.7 per cent.
The number of beneficiaries in Saskatoon was down 3.9 per cent while there was a decline of 6.7 per cent in Regina.
There were also less people filing initial and renewal claims. StatsCan said there were 6,060 claims in July, down 3.2 per cent from the previous month and 10.2 per cent from the same period last year.
The yearly percentage drop in initial and renewal claims was the largest among the provinces.
