FREDERICTON – The RCMP is releasing key details about the death of a pregnant woman whose body was found in a ditch near Fredericton in late 2012.

The Mounties say autopsy results show 26-year-old Alicia Dawn Boone died from hypothermia due to exposure to freezing temperatures.

As well, the autopsy shows the factors that contributed to her death included elevated drug levels in her system as well as positional asphyxia, which refers to the fact that her body was deprived of oxygen because she was face down on the ground.

RCMP Cpl. Chantal Farrah says even though investigators know the cause of death, the case remains open because police still don’t know how she ended up near Killarney Road, where her body was found on Nov. 6, 2012.

Police are also saying that on the night before her body was found, Boone was at an apartment on George Street in Fredericton until 11:30 p.m., when she left to meet someone on Brunswick Street.

Farrah says police are asking for the public’s help as they have added Boone’s case to the RCMP’s unsolved homicides and suspicious deaths website.
