N.B. RCMP aims to quash rumours about suspicious death of Alicia Dawn Boone

Updated Friday, Nov. 9 at 7:03 p.m.

FREDERICTON – The RCMP hopes releasing a photo of Alicia Dawn Boone will help investigators find out more about what happened to the woman, whose body was found in a ditch outside Fredericton earlier this week.

But, Mounties remain tight-lipped about how the woman died and won’t confirm or deny rumours she was murdered.

The 26-year-old’s body was found near a community mailbox along the Killarney Road, about six kilometres from downtown, just before 1:30 p.m. Tuesday.

Boone, originally from Nackawic, was also about seven months pregnant.

Police insist the cause of her death has not yet been determined, only saying it is considered suspicious and investigators are still waiting for autopsy results.

In an email titled “Setting the Record Straight – RCMP continue investigation into death of woman,” sent to media Friday morning, Oromocto RCMP said rumours and speculation could “negatively impact the investigation as the public may take rumours to be facts and can serve to cause further distress for the family.”

The family spoke out on Friday to say they want the rumours to stop.

“Please understand that speculation does not help police discover what’s happened or doesn’t make the situation any easier for my family, spreading unfounded rumours only cause further grief for us and our close friends,” Kristy Boone, Alicia Boone’s older sister, told reporters at an RCMP press conference.

She remembered her sister as someone who loved children.

“It was all about the kids for her, she would play with them she would drop anything and color with them, draw with them, watch TV with them,” she said.

The RCMP statement came after Fredericton’s  Daily Gleaner published an interview with Boone’s former boyfriend in its Friday edition.

Denis Joseph Sivret Sr. told the Gleaner he heard that she was shot and found without any clothes on.

Sivret and Boone were together for about five years, during which time they were convicted of violently assaulting a homeless man and threatening to kill him. Sivret was sentenced to seven-and-a-half months in jail, while Boone was given a conditional sentence. She later breached her conditions and was ordered to serve the rest of her two-month sentence in jail.

RCMP Cpl. Chantal Farrah would not confirm if Boone had a criminal history.

The RCMP’s Major Crime Unit will continue to investigate Boone’s death, the release stated. “We gather all the information and once that information is collected, our investigators are able to draw conclusions as to what took place.

Mounties ask anyone with information about Boone’s death to contact the RCMP at 1-888-506-RCMP (7267) or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477) and online at www.crimenb.ca.
