VAUDREUIL — The road work at a busy intersection in one of Vaudreuil’s busiest commercial districts is having a significant impact on the bottom line for dozens of companies.

“I’m not the only one hurting a little bit. There’s a lot of people in the area here,” Nick Insogna said from his Italian restaurant, George le Roi du Sous-marin.

Transports Quebec is in the midst of a massive construction blitz in the off island suburban town.

Two new overpasses are being built above Highway 40 and local roads are being widened to accommodate a growing population.

But some business owners are concerned that the government department isn’t doing enough to improve signage in the area to help motorists navigate their way around the construction mess.

”They’re not doing enough right across the board in terms of how fast the work is going, what direction people are supposed to go to get in and out of this mall so people can come use our business,” said Philip Le Maistre, the chief mechanic of GIANT Vaudreuil, a bike shop on St-Charles Avenue.

But Transports Quebec told Global News that it’s doing all it can to make sure drivers know where to go, and have an easy time making their way through the construction.

”We’re monitoring that work site on a regular basis,” Transports Quebec spokesperson Josée Séguin said.

The road work is expected to last until at least November.
