Construction mess greets motorists through Vaudreuil

VAUDREUIL — You better pack a lot of patience if you’re driving through Vaudreuil these days.

The intersection of St-Charles Avenue and Cité-des-Jeunes Boulevard is being completely rebuilt.

But trying to navigate your way through the construction labyrinth isn’t easy.

The asphalt has been removed and motorists are forced to drive on bumpy stones and gravel.

There are no painted arrows or roads signs to help drivers figure out where to turn, or in which lane they should be travelling.

“I think with no road markings at all nobody really knows where the lanes are at all so it gets a bit confusing,” one driver said.

The transportation department is building two new overpasses above the A-40 and is overhauling the two main streets.

The project is costing $25 million and city of Vaudreuil-Dorion is picking up $5,680,000 of the bill.

But the mayor is disappointed that Transports Quebec isn’t doing more to help people navigate through the construction.

“I don’t think they give a damn about happens on the road,” Guy Pilon said from his office, only a block away from the work site.

Pilon argues things would be a lot different if he was in charge of the projects.

“Our main concern would be the citizen,” he said.

The entire work project is scheduled to last until next spring.
