PRINCETON — Crews continue to battle a growing wildfire in the Princeton area.
The fire broke out Sunday evening along the Princeton-Summerland highway.
It was initially reported to be 80 hectares in size but has since grown to 182.
Officials say fighting the fire is a challenge because of dry grass, steep terrain and high winds.
There are structures in the area and officials say that protecting them is a priority, however, no evacuation orders or alerts are in effect.
Thirty firefighters are on scene building a guard around the blaze. Air tankers and helicopters are on standby.
The cause of the fire is believed to be human-caused.
Despite a drop in temperature as summer comes to an end, the fire danger within the Kamloops Fire Centre remains high.
So far this season, there have been 325 wildfires in the Kamloops Fire Centre and about half of them were human-caused.
