WINNIPEG – Patrons of the St. Norbert Hotel stepped in during an armed robbery Saturday night and one was injured while restraining an alleged thief.
Armed men stole cash from the hotel at about 10:30 p.m. Saturday, police said in a news release.
Customers tried to stop the thieves and a 25-year-old who attempted to hold one of the men was injured, police said. He was later taken to hospital in stable condition.
Other hotel patrons helped hold the alleged robber until police arrived, but the other thieves escaped.
A 27-year-old man has been charged with aggravated assault, robbery, possessing a weapon for a dangerous purpose and being disguised with intent to commit an offence. He’s being held in custody.
