A group called “The Red and White Army for Tennis Canada” from Vancouver was chanting to pump up the crowd.

“Tennis life is totally awesome, there’s nothing like it,” said group member Brian Minichiello. “The ball moves so fast. The people are intense. Being in other countries and cheering on Canada is something that all Canadians should experience.”

The Vancouver group then led a chant as they marched toward the Halifax Metro Centre, where the matches are taking place.

Once inside there was another group who are big supporters of Canadian tennis star Milos Raonic.

“We decided to make some fun signs for the Davis Cup this weekend,” said Justin Boudreau. “Get out of the rigours of the normal workday and basically pump up the Halifax crowd…it’s going to be a fun weekend.”

Tennis Canada says crowds should exceed expectations.

“The promotions here will be amazing. There’s a lot of people coming out,” says spokesperson Gavin Ziv. “We’ve spoken to universities, they’re bringing people out. There’s all kinds of cheering sections happening, groups coming together.”
