NEW YORK – Reed Krakoff’s sporty, feminine presentation Wednesday at New York Fashion Week included macrame raffia, perforation, supple leather in cobalt blue and some killer handbags.
Krakoff, the former executive creative director of Coach, returned to his roots in shoes and bags, updating a laceless Oxford that is one of his icons. Think slightly elevated platform trainers.
One pair of the comfy shoes was in a black-and-white abstract print. Another had blue snakeskin at the toe.
As for his luxe bags, he paid homage to his signature RK40L boxer style in to-die-for black-and-white alligator skin. Other versions were in snakeskins of brown, black and blue. The updates just launched.
Krakoff traditionally mixes artisanal touches with utilitarian sports influences, and his clothes for spring were along those lines.
He built snakeskin panels into long, roomy vests, used leather mesh for a black-and-white skirt, and put black python skin on a white and grey leather vest.
For a sweater, he mixed python and cashmere. And he perforated leather in jackets and skirts.
“As always it’s a slight minimalist take on this kind of feminine ideal, trying to make things feminine and sensual but still have this minimalist modernity,” Krakoff explained as he greeted his guests.
