WINNIPEG – A strong wind warning is in effect for Lake Manitoba, Lake Winnipeg and Lake of the Woods on Tuesday morning.
Environment Canada has forecast northeasterly winds reaching 20 knots (37 kilometres per hour) for the south basin of Lake Winnipeg, and northeasterly winds of 15 to 20 knots for the north basin. Winds in the north basin are forecast to become northerly at 20 knots Wednesday morning.
Lake Manitoba is forecast to get northeasterly winds at 20 knots on Tuesday and Wednesday.
Lake of the Woods is expected to get north winds of 15 knots increasing to northeast winds of 20 knots on Tuesday afternoon, then veering to north winds at 20 knots on Wednesday.
High water on both Lake Manitoba and Lake Winnipeg have persisted well past the normal spring flood season. Winds could further raise levels and push waves up against lakefront properties.
