Saskatoon building permit values drop in July

OTTAWA – The value of building permits in Saskatoon took a drop in July compared to a year ago.

According to numbers released Monday by Statistics Canada, the value of permits issued was down 14.3 per cent from $123.9 million to $105.9 million.

On a monthly basis, values were up 19.3 per cent from June’s $88.7 million. In May, $161.5 million in building permits were issued.

The numbers are the same for the province.

Residential building permit values were down 12.2 per cent from July 2013 to $133.6 million while non-residential values were down 11.6 million to $126.5.

On a monthly basis, values were up 6.4 and 35.7 per cent respectively from June.

StatsCan says building permit data is a leading indicator of activity in the construction industry.
