UPDATE: Translink says the service detour has been cleared and they’re back to a regular route.

A problem train caused system-wide delays across SkyTrain during today’s afternoon commute.

Just after 5 p.m. both travellers and Translink began tweeting there were “system-wide delays due to a problem train in the Gateway Station area.”

According to a Translink spokesperson, the power outage happened between Scott Road and Gateway Station and impacted the Expo-Millennium Line.

One traveller on the ‘problem train’ told Global News that at approximately 4:55 p.m., the train started “pulsing and heating… and around 5:05 p.m. it just stopped and you could hear some sort of motor go off.”

Translink BC began tweeting about the system wide delay and apologized for the inconvenience.

They are in the process of removing the affected train from service and resuming power to that section of the line, says a Translink spokesperson.

All the power throughout the rest of the system is still operational.

Translink couldn’t confirm reports of people who were trapped on the trains, opening the doors and walking alongside the tracks.

But one Global News viewer sent us the following photos of travellers taking to the tracks.
