TORONTO – Toronto police say they have charged an 18-year-old babysitter with second-degree murder in the death of a 32-months-old
girl earlier this year.
Police say officers were called to the Wellesley Street East and Bleecker Street area on Jan. 3 by a then-17-year-old babysitter for a child not breathing.
Once on scene, police located a girl, identified as Jazara Garrison-Downey, with obvious injuries and without vital signs.
She was pronounced dead at the scene.
Police say an autopsy has now concluded that the girl died of multiple recent injuries.
On Thursday, investigators arrested the suspect, who police say cannot be identified under the Youth Criminal Justice Act.
