Laval man in serious condition following parking lot attack

LAVAL – 27-year-old Hamidullah Azizi is still recovering in hospital after receiving round-the-clock care for four days.

Laval Police say he was beaten up Tuesday by one of his neighbours with a weapon, a metal telescopic baton.

What’s most particular about this story is the motive behind the attack appears to be a dispute over a parking spot.

The alleged crime took place last Tuesday afternoon outside an apartment building in Laval’s Chomedey district.

A verbal dispute began after one of the men complained about a vehicle blocking a designated parking area.

“He was struck many times in the head with the baton,” says Zeba Juma, the victim’s sister-in-law.

27-year-old Pierre-Olivier Lariviere is facing a number of charges including multiple counts of aggravated assault, assault with a weapon, and mischief.

He’s been released on bail and returns to court in October.

A friend of the victim was also charged for allegedly assaulting Lariviere.

His family calls that unfair, claiming he was just trying to break up the scuffle.

Juma believes the attack may have also been partly racially motivated.

Azizi recently emigrated to Canada from Afghanistan.
