REGINA – Two men from Regina have been charged after a police officer was nearly hit by a suspect’s vehicle on Sunday morning.
The incident began when police attempted to stop a Ford F150 truck on 8th Avenue and the vehicle sped off towards Elphinstone St.
An officer attempted to stop the truck by activating his emergency lights, but before he was able to exit his car it’s alleged the driver of the truck backed up intentionally, hitting the police car and setting off its airbags, which caused injury to the officer’s wrist.
The truck then drove north on Elphinstone St. at a high rate of speed, breaking through construction signs and striking barriers at 4th Avenue, and hitting a light standard one block further north.
Two men fled the truck on foot and were arrested within a block.
25-year-old Ashton J. Lavallee-Raphael of Regina and 27-year-old Ronald Devon Zerr of Regina are both facing multiple charges including assaulting a peace officer with a weapon.
Both men made their first court appearance on Monday morning.
