UPDATE: 4:28 p.m. Gary Leaman has been sentenced to 21 months in jail and 27 months probation for sexually assaulting two boys.
Judge Gail Sinclair:
Leaman has a “sexual interest in pubescent boys. That interest, unfortunately, was elevated from fantasy to reality.”
PENTICTON, B.C. — A sentencing hearing for a former Penticton city councillor began in August and was completed Friday afternoon.
Gary Leaman pleaded guilty to two counts of sexual assault in January.
The court heard from Nalini Joneja, a clinical psychologist, in August who found that Leaman possesses traits of a person with narcissistic, histrionic, and obsessive compulsive personality disorders.
Essentially, it means Leaman lacks empathy, has a grandiose sense of self-importance, is attention-seeking and is a perfectionist.
Leaman did take the stand, however, near the end of the hearing to clarify points in the psychologist’s report.
He said that looking in people in the eye and telling them what he’s done has not been easy.
