VANCOUVER – Firearms charges have been laid against one man alleged to be involved with others in an ongoing Vancouver gang conflict.
Vancouver police say they have been focusing on the city’s south slope neighbourhood where a number of recent violent incidents have taken place.
On Thursday they detained four men in a car parked at a local gas station after seeing what they described as suspicious activity.
Police discovered bear spray inside the vehicle as well as a .44 calibre revolver and a box of ammunition.
Nineteen-year-old Vancouver resident Jaskaran Singh Heer has been charged with possession of a restricted weapon, unauthorized possession of a firearm in a motor vehicle and possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose. He will stay in custody pending his next court appearance.
Police have also recommended charges against a second man in the car.
