VANCOUVER – A 41-year-old man was arrested on Saturday morning in connection with an alleged sexual assault of a woman involved in the Nanaimo sex trade.
RCMP say they were called at about 3:30 a.m. on Saturday, Aug. 2, to a home on Nicol Street. They had received a 9-1-1 call from the 30-year-old woman saying she had been, over the course of two hours, physically and sexually assaulted by a male customer.
The woman had run from the house and when Mounties met up with her they say she was in obvious distress and was bruised. She was taken to hospital where she was treated for injuries and released a few hours later.
With her help, police were able to arrest the suspect without incident. He has been released on a promise to appear with conditions to have no contact with the victim. He is expected to appear in Nanaimo Provincial Court on Sept. 23 on one count of sexual assault.
