The 2014 BC Summer Games in Nanaimo kick-off July 17 with over 3,200 of BC’s best emerging high performance talents taking part in the four day event.

Nearly 2,500 athletes are from every corner of the province and have trained to represent their zone in 19 different sports at the Games.  Athletes with a disability will compete in athletics, equestrian, and swimming.  These athletes will be supported by over 500 coaches and 200 officials who have earned their certification in order to provide the best knowledge and expertise to the athletes and the competition.

The BC Games has been the starting point for many athletes who have succeeded at the very highest levels of sport including Brent Hayden (2012 Olympic bronze medallist – Swimming), Carol Huynh (2008 and 2012 Olympic medallist – Wrestling) and Brett Lawrie (MLB Toronto Blue Jays).

Volunteers in Nanaimo have been preparing for the past 18 months to host the Games.  There will be over 2800 volunteers working to ensure the participants have exceptional competition and a first-rate experience with Opening and Closing Ceremonies, special events, and wonderful hospitality.
